Colombia

It is a sad fact that Colombia has fallen victim to its troubled past and tenuous present. The drug trade and the legacy of Pablo Escobar, and the forty plus years of civil war, have consumed news of Colombia in the American press. Despite the tough road ahead, much has been accomplished. The newly inaugurated Uribe administration has pledged to continue working on combating the endemic violence in his country. Some little reported facts might further provide hope for Colombia, s future. During the 1980s Colombia was one of the only Latin American countries to record positive economic growth every year due to a diversified agricultural sector that includes some of the world, s finest coffee, bananas, cotton, sugar, flowers, cacao, and fish along with deposits of natural gas and oil.
