Honduras

The hardest hit by Hurricane Mitch in 1998, Honduras now faces the daunting task of repairing the damage caused by one of the worst natural disasters to strike Central America. The damage done to Honduras alone is believed to have set the Honduran economy back by decades. Even with the restoration of civilian rule in the 1980s, many issues have yet to be addressed adequately such as rampant crime, a large gap in income distribution, and a military that continues to remain active in politics. Against this backdrop, Honduras offers the tourist a lush tropical paradise and the famous Copan ruins.
